crafting for summer

phew, after 18 days away, with one day in between trips, we're home! no more trips for at least a month, right? :)

i haven't posted much in the way of sewing/crafting lately, just because i've had much better things to be posting about like law school graduations and disney trips! that doesn't mean i haven't been working on anything though, because i certainly have. here's a quick rundown, because i know you all care so much!

i have fallen in love with reverse applique, thanks to maribeth, and to that end have made several reverse applique tees for the girl.

faith

peace, love, mickey

let's go fly a kite!

i made ruffle shorts to go with each of these as well, but i've posted those a million times already, so i'll spare you all but one :)

ruffled princess shorts! i got this fabric for free from a friend and wasn't sure what i would ever do with it, being all purple and princessy and sparkly, but when disney came along, they screamed to be made into ruffle shorts! i repurposed a previously used tee (badly done iron-on) and fussy cut snow white to applique over. ta-da, disney outfit for free! funny thing, the shorts were the thing she was most complimented on when we were at disney, go figure :)

i've also posted at least a half a dozen peasant dresses, but this one is a little different. i made a empire waist casing and threaded a fabric tie through to cinch it in, giving it a little more shape. love me some peasant dresses. of course, i think faith's grown two inches since i made this one, so i'll be adding a contrasting panel to the bottom before summer's over!

then there were teacher gifts, easy peasy appliqued cross hand towels! (i'm sure these will make an appearance again, perhaps around the holidays?) recognize any of the fabric scraps? :)

triple stitched to make the design stand out more

aside from sewing, i also attempted bookmaking for the first time when i decided faith needed an autograph book for disney, but wasn't a big fan of the mass produced ones. plus, it's always good to work in a little houndstooth, right?

it definitely isn't a perfect book, but it held up well during all of the disney autograph sessions so what more can i ask? i'm planning to print out pictures of faith with the characters to include with the autographs as a little scrapbook type of thing.

so that's what craftiness i've been up to lately! i'm still working on faith's ticker tape quilt, even though i haven't actually sewn anything on it for over a month. at this rate, it may be her birthday present! too hot for a quilt these days anyway, right? :)

  1. You are one amazing "daughter" - very proud of you:) I love all of your sewing/crafts, but I have to say my favorite one was the disney shorts. The peasant dress came close behind.
