chair redo

pops and zee brought a chair for faith's desk when they came for her birthday. it needed a little facelift, which is always fun!

pretty cute :)

playroom & living room

it's a two for one post! the playroom was the first room we really finished here, and it's the room we spend the most time in as a family (thus is it very rarely this clean!) this is technically the dining room, so it's pretty central to the rest of the house.

i am a huge fan of these little cube cubbies and bins! it makes containing crazy blocks and toys so much easier. and the charlie brown chevron rainbow i painted on them makes my heart happy!

a lot of the things in this room we already had, so the red cabinet that used to be in our kitchen now houses board games, movies, and wii games, and the drawer bin that used to be in our living room now has a place it actually fits! the little table and chairs were a gift from zee to the girls, it's a perfect size for both of them and makes a nice little art corner along with the rainbow drawers that hold art supplies.

the futon used to be in our guest room/craft room/library/whatever room at the old house, but it fits perfectly here and gives adults a place to hang while the girls play. on the other side is a little book shelf with all of the board books and a little bean bag chair.

leah really likes the book corner ;)

the living room is also mostly finished now! we struggled a little bit with furniture placement in this room since there are so many entrances/doors/windows, but i think we've gotten it figured out finally.

the doorway on the right leads to the girls rooms and bathrooms. this picture is taken from the kitchen/eating area doorway.

it's a great sized room, so we put the china cabinet and piano in here too. the kitchen/eating area doorway is on the right and the foyer/front door is on the left.

and of course our painting has to go above the fireplace!

that may be the last of the house tour for a little while, the study is done, but usually rather...in use? and the master bedroom hasn't been touched, so maybe one day i'll get to those!

faith's room

so it's taken me a little longer to post another finished room! but finally, faith's room is (mostly) done!

faith upgraded to the full bed that was in our guest bedroom before, so we got new bedding from Target that worked with the color scheme of her previous room.

We moved the secretary into her room as well, and she uses it for drawing, building legos, and storing little treasures.

I painted some empty frames in colors pulled from her sheets and added them to the walls. All of these big blank walls can be a challenge to fill!

so another room down! we're getting really close on the living room, so maybe i'll do the playroom next since that was the first room we finished, then follow up with the living room. it's good to have a plan!

chalkboard window backpack/coat hanger

when school started a couple of weeks ago, i quickly realized that i needed to do something about the backpacks/diaper bag/purse/briefcase situation. we come into the house through the garage, and all of these bags ended up laying topsy turvy in the middle of the kitchen floor, which kind of made me crazy.

so i finally took the time to do a little project i'd had in mind since we moved! nothing like leaving it to the last minute, eh?

it all started with a window.

i took all of the hardware off, filled holes/sanded/painted with some white paint i had on hand, then set about taping to prep for the chalkboard step.

there was lots of taping.

then i took it outside and used rustoleum's spray chalkboard paint to spray the window panes. i thought about using the brush paint, but when our store was out, went with the spray paint out of impatience. :)

after the chalkboard paint dried, i pulled the tape off and added four robe hooks i picked up at home depot for under $2 each. not too shabby!

hanging it was a little more challenging since i wanted to secure it to a stud (all those bags weigh a ton!), but once i found the drill (a challenge in and of itself), i got it strongly secured to the wall by the door that leads to the garage.

and now all of those bags have a home! i've used the little chalkboards just for doodling so far, but i plan to use them to help me keep up with activities, grocery lists, etc., as the school year progresses. and i pretty much love how it has helped us keep all of the school things where we can find them, but out of the kitchen floor!

my favorite part? it cost me $11 instead of $50 or $95.

leah's room

so i thought it'd be fun to post pictures of rooms as we sort of finalize them, since i'm pretty sure most people will never get here to see them in person ;)

first up is leah's room! girlfriend got a serious upgrade from the nursery nook she had at the other house, so much space! the added space meant that we could put faith's twin bed in there as well as the crib so we'll have somewhere for faith to sleep when we do have guests (her room will serve as the guest room now.) leah also thinks she's a big girl and wants to "sleep" in the big bed!

all of the wall space meant that we could put up all of the sweet little classic pooh framed art too! i'm still planning to get her name for the wall underneath the three pictures hung above the bed. i'm also pondering a new quilt for the twin, but we'll see.

so there's baby girl's room! next up is faith's room, once we complete a few little projects! :)
